National award-winning filmmaker Manmohan Mahapatra, who has helmed acclaimed Odia movies like Nishita Swapna, and Majhi Pahacha, passed away today. He was 69 years old. National award-winning filmmaker from Odisha, Manmohan Mahapatra (69), passed away at a private hospital here on Monday, family sources said. Known as the father of Odia new wave cinema, Mahapatra won eight consecutive national film awards. Some of his critically acclaimed films are Nishita Swapna, Majhi Pahacha, Tired Afternoon, Neeraba Jhada, Seeta Raati and Bhinna Samaya. 30 killed in Pakistan due to heavy snow, rain

Quetta, Jan 14 (IANS) Heavy snowfall, rain and flash floods have killed at least 30 people in Pakistan, with authorities struggling to clear and reopen highways and evacuate people to safer places as an unusual extreme weather system has entered the country. Rain intensifies cold wave in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Jan 14 (IANS) Cold wave conditions intensified on Tuesday with widespread rain in most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh and the showers were likely to continue, Met officials said here. Dense fog conditions will return after the rain, the Met added. The holy city Amritsar in Punjab saw the highest rain in both the states at 27.6 mm. It recorded a low of 3.7 degrees Celsius, a sharp fall from Monday’s 10.2 degrees. Industrial hub Ludhiana had a low of 5.8 degrees Celsius with a rainfall of 12.8 mm.
