FIREFIGHTERS are battling a bushfire that has broken out in the Beerburrum State Forest, near Twin View Road at Elimbah, north of Caboolture.

In a statement, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said several crews were battling the blaze, keeping it away from homes and property in the area.

Firefighters were currently working on strengthening containment lines and warned smoke from the blaze could affect Elimbah and Caboolture.

The fire had been burning since Friday.

Recreational motorists and motorbike riders travelling within Beerburrum State Forest were asked to avoid the area. Residents should close windows and doors, and keep medications close by if suffering from a respiratory condition.

Smoke can decrease visibility, so motorists should drive with caution and to conditions. If residents are concerned their property is under threat, they should call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
